Features & Benefits:
"Rocks and Minerals" is an interactive multimedia program designed to investigate the formation of rocks and minerals. The program emphasizes different types and ages of rocks, the development of matter to minerals, how minerals come together to form compounds, and how to classify and identify minerals in nature.
"Rocks and Minerals" is divided into three main sections:
- Geological Time
- Matter to Minerals
- Types of Rock
Geological Time: Students are introduced to four areas of the earth time line: Pre-Cambrian, Paleozoic, Mesozoic, and Cenozoic. Students also investigate the age of rocks in Newfoundland and Labrador, Ontario, and Alberta, Canada.
Matter to Minerals: The concept of how matter comes together to form minerals is explained to the students. This explanation includes such concepts as matter, atoms, bonding, compounds, minerals in nature, crystals, crystal aggregates, mineral classifications, and mineral identification.
Types of Rocks: Students are presented with an overview of the following rock types: Sedimentary, Igneous, Metamorphic, and combinations of each. Students investigate the different types of rock found in Newfoundland and Labrador, Ontario, and Alberta, Canada.
